Favorite Answer
1 year of general/college biology
1 year general chemistry, 1 organic chemistry
Other courses that are almost always required: anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, physics, calculus
Some big universities will also have undergaduate courses in public health, immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, and other things that would definitely look good.
Outside of the sciences, courses in nutrition, anthropology, psychology, and sociology may look good. Foreign languages are also a plus in any field, especially if you want to work in an area with a large population of non-native English speakers. I know a lot of MDs who minored in Spanish or another language.
Instead, use the extra time by taking other courses in college that either drive or feed your passions. Art history, ancient Greek, computer science, Biblical studies, electrical engineering, environmental science, Chinese civilization – it really doesn’t matter, so long as you pour yourself into it, heart and mind. Being a well rounded, multidimensional person will make you a much better doctor in the long run.
