What is an “Umbrella Clause”?
I know that a Grandfather Clause is called such because it protects those who would be affected before something is established. However, I recently heard the term “Umbrella Clause”. What is that?

It means, basically, if there’s anything or anyone we forgot when writing this nonsense contract, we can zing ’em anyway.
Kind of like this:
We will insure you for only x,y,z on a sunny day, when your name is spelled right on the form the first time you submit it, and not thereafter.
“We are not responsible for forms lost in the mail, the postal strikes that got your form here one day past the submission requirements, or ANY OTHER REASON THAT YOU DID NOT PROPERLY SUBMIT.”
That any other part is kind of like an umbrella clause.
We can’t figure out how many wacky xcuses people will come up with, so we’ll just say we won’t accept them before anybody even tries it.
