what is a thesis??

i have to write one for school. help!!

in most cases, it’s a several hundred page essay on one subject.

She asked what a thesis was NOT a thesis statement.

Whats it’s not:

An essay.

Easy.

What it is:

A 20-40 page paper based upon ACADEMIC research (that means no wikipedia). A topic is chosen and the research revolves around the topic.

I did two – one for each masters-

In one I researched how neighborhood associations were structured and the services provided impacted residents in their service areas.

A thesis is like a mini summary and point of what you are going to write about in the essay.

For example, if I was writing an essay about proper nutrition, I would pick a few main points that I would discuss in my essay, and my thesis might be, “Most of the population in the United States does not receive proper nutirtion because, _______________, __________________, and _____________. (the blanks would the three main points of my essay! because my essay would be about WHY americans don’t get proper nutirtion.)
