The Ivy League is a college athletic league. It was formed many years ago from a group of highly prestigious Eastern universities. All of the eight schools are elite and highly selective. They are among the best universities in the world.

The other answer correctly listed the eight Ivies as Brown in Rhode Island, Harvard in Massachusetts, Dartmouth in New Hampshire, Yale in Connecticut, Cornell and Columbia in NY, Princeton in New Jersey and Penn in Pennsylvania.

A few other universities are regarded as being on the same level as the Ivies… some that are not members of the Ivy League, but are often mentioned as being equivalent are Stanford, Duke and UChicago as well as MIT and Caltech.

By the way, all of the Ivies and the other schools mentioned are quite small. Most of them are much smaller than the average state university. That is one reason why they are hard to get into – they only admit about 1500 students per year each….

The Ivy League is an athletic conference of colleges in the US. It consists of:

Brown U

Columiba U

Cornell U

Dartmouth College

Harvard U

Princeton U

U of Pennsylvania

Yale U

They’re EXTREMELY well known for their low admittance rate (Princeton is like 11% admitted) and excellent academics. They’re all located on the US’s East coast.

The Ivy League is a football league. They were the top football colleges when the league was formed. They are also SOME of the top colleges in the country, but there are also plenty of fantastic schools that don’t waste money on football.
