Graduate and undergraduate schools can be the same institution – you attend graduate school AFTER you attain your undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s).

Masters degrees and doctoral degrees – these are graduate and post graduate degrees.

MBA – Master’s of business administration

MA – Master of arts

MS – Master of science

MSW – Master of social work

MEd – Master of education

PhD – Doctor of philosophy

MD – Medical doctor

EdD – Doctor of education

JD – Juris doctor .. etc. etc. etc.

An undergraduate school offers first degrees eg. BA, BSc, BSW etc.

Graduate school offers degrees beyong the bachelor’s level eg. MA, MSc, MSW, Phd, MD etc.

Typically one has to graduate with a first degree before going on to do a higher level degree, hence the name, graduate school. Graduate school is for graduates! Undergraduate school is for those who have not yet graduated!
