What is a general salary for a Radiology Technician?

Also is that the same as an X-ray Tech?

There are two different job descriptions here. A x-ray or radiologic TECHNICIAN is a limited permit tech. They are usually licensed to just do extremity (arms, legs, hands, feet) x-rays. Most of these techs work in an orthopedic office, and would have trouble getting a job in a hospital or imaging facility (as they cannot do many of the required examinations).

A x-ray or radiologic TECHNOLOGIST is a fully licensed tech. We can do any type of exam involving radiation, from chest x-rays to fluoroscopic exams to portable films in surgery to CT scans. Technologists make more money than technicians, but their schooling is also longer and more involved.

Salary will vary greatly. A technologist working in a hospital will make more than one working in a free standing imaging center (usually). A tech. who works PMs or night shifts will make more than day shift. A travelling tech. will make amazing money. The more modalities a tech. is licensed in (CT, mammo, fluoro, MRI even), the more money they will make. A tech. in California will make more than one in Oregon (as with most any career).

I work in a free standing imaging facility in Northern California, and I hold 6 different state and national licenses. I have been licensed since 1992 and worked in the same facility since 1994. I am currently making $29 an hour.

Best wishes to you……

I suggest you go in to radiology. They are in high demand and you will most like never be without a job. Some hospitals offer hire-on bonuses upwards of $2000 plus a decent salary. You will have to go to school for a couple of years but to me it is worth it. I think the worst thing I’ve heard is you may have to give barium enemas. Pharmacy tech is a job, not a career, I was one for 7 years but it did pay the bills to get me through school. I would suggest you contact your closest technical school/community college they could probably help you.

Yes it’s the same. Here in CALIF. you can earn between $25/hr and $45.00 or even more. Depends on where you work, the # of years of experience and if you have the diff. certification AART, MRI, Ultrasound, CT. Go to salary.com and check it out.
