what exactly digital means?

The “digits” 0 through 9, are the base of this numbering system. And, although there are many numbering systems, this is the one used in every day life (this is because we all use 10 as a base due to our “digits” on our hands and feet, we have 10 fingers and 10 toes, other numbering systems such as binary (0 & 1 or on & off or hi & low) are used in computer systems and electronics).
But if the context is what is digital when used as an adjective, that generally means something with a numeric display. Such as a “digital Clock” has a numeric display instead of the traditional clock face with rotating hands showing the time. Or a digital thermometer has a numeric read out instead of having to read the level of the mercury (or whatever is being used to measure the temperature).
It could also mean (as in electronics) a discrete measure. in other words, you could have +5 or -5 or 0, but not anything in between (this is related to the same reason we have digital clocks and themometors, there is no way to tell if 98 degrees on a digital themometer is 97.8 or 98.2, because it does not have an “analog” or continuous display. You could look at the mercury level on a themometer and depending on how closely you look, you could see exactly how far b/w the marks the level really is. you cannot do that on a digital themometer, because the readout is either one thing or another, with no grades in between)
Hope this answered your question.
