“It was a staff pick at Book Soup”. What does the author mean by this?

It means that the product indicated (presumably a book) was selected by one or more of the staffers at the shop as their favorite or one of their favorites.

Staff is everyone who works at a place of business.
Some sorts of businesses give you recommendations–bookstores, DVD shops, restaurants, etc.
A “staff pick” means something chosen by one member of the hired workforce of officials at some place of business,
who hopes you will try his/her recommended item and enjoy it as he or she did.
