I have a double BA degree in Political Science and Journalism. For ten years, I have worked as an engineering project manager for a Silicon Valley company that makes routers and switches and phones. My job is to micromanage a product from Concept Commit to First Customer Ship, managing schedules, features, bug counts, and resources. The job pays a great salary plus stock options, ESPP, etc. I love my job. LOVE IT. It paid for a house near San Jose, so you know it can’t be bad.

Taking rhetoric and political science at UC Berkeley honed my communication skills and I kneel today at the altar of those professors. They taught me how to synthesize information, how to listen and be savvy politically on the job. When to talk and when to shut the hell up.

A degree does not have to be directly related to your occupation; school teaches you how to learn.

I graduated in May 2006 with a BS in Astrophysics and Computer Science (a double major). I am currently a graduate student in physics, and I have finished my first year. Grad school has been on the one hand difficult and a *lot* of work, but also a fair amount of fun. I like the other students (grad students tend to know each other better than undergrads from my experience), and I have started to do some interesting things (much of the first year is an overview of many areas of physics, but in the summer we get to begin specializing in a topic of our choice). During the past year, I was also a TA (a very common circumstance), which was a mixed experience. I discovered how much I hate grading, yet being in front of a class is something I enjoy (even if my students don’t… 😉 ). It doesn’t pay well (but I do get paid for going to grad school via TA-ships), but it’s enough to live on. All told, yes, I like my job.

I have a Master’s Degree in Business Education. I have been teaching for 23 years. For the most part, I do like my job, but there are days that I do look forward to retirement.

I have a B.A. in Modern Languages (Spanish, French, and German) and a Master’s in English (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Right now, I teach English as a Second Language at a university, and I do like it. Teaching, though, is a challenging job sometimes, so I’m not sure it’s something I want to do forever, but it’s one of the few jobs that I don’t hate doing.

I found out too late that the degree from CMU was bogus .
