What are some signs that you may be hired on as a new teacher???
The principal and assistant prin. interviewed me and I think it went pretty well. They showed me a few classrooms and walked me around the school. They also asked if I had a preference between first and third grade and I told them either one would be great. Are these signs that they’re considering me?

Typically if school starts in August, you don’t get paid until August or even September in some districts. What some don’t see coming is many districts require that you work a full calendar month before getting insurance benefits. If you start in August, the first full month of work is September and benefits don’t start until October. The good thing is that if you don’t get paid until September, you will get paychecks until August if for some reason you have to leave the district. Typically the district owes you money. You work through your 10 months of teaching but it takes 12 months to pay you for it. You work before you get paid and then the salary doesn’t catch up until the start of the next year.

I went on several interviews, was given tours of the school, and was not offered the job. A true sign that you are going to be offered the job is if the school calls to check your references. If they aren’t checking your references, you probably aren’t in the running.

A contract would be the best sign. Other than that, you do not ever know. Of course they are considering you, but they are also considering others, and ask them the same questions.
Good luck.

The sign that they have decided to hire you would be a call saying “you have the job”, or they will send you a letter stating such.

If they have an opening, you’re hired. Congratulations, teacher!
