Ways to strengthen audio memory…?

I have a photographic memory. I can look at a piece of paper with notes written on it and then copy it almost word for word an hour later, based on the image in my head. I remember pictures from early childhood.

My problem, however, is that I cannot for the life of me listen and remember specific words and phrases that I hear. If I watch an educational program or have an interesting conversation, I cannot relay the key points in a coherent fashion, because I remember the images I created during the conversation and not the actual words.

Are there any exercises I can use to sharpen my memory and help me remember the words people speak instead of the jist of the conversation?

My son suffers from the same problem and his therapist suggested a program for him called, “The Listening Program”. The Listening Program ® was designed to help balance, strengthen, and/or restore our ability to listen to and process sounds across the full auditory spectrum, from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This can result in striking improvements across the human continuum, from academic performance to emotional balance.

Not only have we used this for my son, but everyone in our family has used this program and we are amazed at the level of auditory response improvement.

Check into it.
