I go to the University of Pittsburgh, and I must disagree with the negative comments about it. The University of Pittsburgh is actually one of the best schools in the U.S. and its reputation is improving every year. Both schools are ranked about the same currently.

The University of Pittsburgh is internationally known for its medical programs and foreign language study (especially Japanese and Chinese). It is nationally known for being a good school to study at in all majors, though.

Pitt student IDs allow you to use the public transportation (buses) for free, which allows you to travel downtown and to other areas of the city to go shopping, to shows, to clubs, etc. Also, it allows you to enter the Carnegie Art Museum and Museum of Natural History, the Mattress Factory (a modern art museum), the Andy Warhol Museum, and Phipps Conservatory for free. This is really convenient if you are ever looking for things to do without spending money.

The university is constantly renovating and updating buildings as it becomes more prestigious. It’s a nice school with a good reputation.

I go to umd and I personally love it. My friend transfered from u pitt first semester to umd and was really happy with the switch. There are upsides and downsides to both. Maryland has a beautiful campus, nearby DC, a ton of people (which could be good or bad). Pitt is right in the city which I hear is a lot of fun. Either way you are looking at two really good schools, but i have to say that I am a little bias to umd. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have.

College Park (MD) versus Oakland (PA). College Park has become a fairly poor suburb of the DC area in Prince George’s County. Oakland is located within the heart of the city of Pittsburgh and has less of a crime rate.

If you’re considering the biological sciences, Pitt’s Med School has been one of the largest growing factions of the nation, so getting real-time experience is possible.

UMD has some very good political science programs due to its proximity to DC.
