Use FOIL to see if it’s true or not…

First: x * x

Outside: x * -8

Inside: 7x

Last: 7 * -8

True, if you multiply (x +7)(x – 8) using the foil method you will get x^2 – x – 56/

It’s true

LHS = x2-x-56

RHS = (x+7)(x-8)

= x(x-8)+7(x-8)

= x2-8x+7x-56

=x2-x-56= LHS

Cmon Kid, make an effort to struggle a bit..How else will ya learn? This question can’t be all that intimidating…. Instead of factoring the left hand side, you can expand the right side (like what the other smart girl has done) and see for yourself whether its an identity..
