thoughts on a major?

If you were thinking of computer engineering than I assume you are good with numbers. Mathematics, specifically statistics, opens the door to many careers. The sciences do as well, math and science are primarily research fields. Research is conducted by private agencies, government agencies, companies, non-profits, and universities, any of whom would jump on a qualified individual. Economics and business are also very marketable majors. Chances are if you’re studying money in the classroom, you’ll be making it once you graduate.

The great paying job part involves more than just your major, if you want a great job right out of school you have to put your name out there now. Definitely look for internships or work-study programs, or just a really good summer/winter job. Find a position where you can use your skills with technology and math, whether it be in a business or research setting. Then, choose a major that matches the experience you are getting. To get that great job, you need both.

Most engineers have great jobs right after graduation. I know computer programmers are highly sought after. Double E and Mech E is a great one as well. If you like the biology aspect, try biomedical engineering. If you plan on going to graduate school or some form of higher education such as medical/pharm/opt school then biological sciences is a great major. Physicians, pharmacists and optometrists make great money.

It’s tough choosing a major. I changed mine several times. Maybe you should try Liberal Studies. It would allow you to continue without getting too specific and wasting time. Also you want to think about your happiness and not just money. But then again if money makes you happy go for it!

If you have the brains, nursing and health care related fields are bringing in the big bucks at the present time.
