The negative aspect is in relationship to how Society treats the profession. Originally, teachers were women, because it was a profession that could provide supplemental income. If a teacher was single, or was the ‘breadwinner’ in a family, then the pay was barely adequate for the first many years.
Again, as a male in this profession, I find myself perceived every September with curiosity and some discomfort. It takes a while for the students to realize that I don’t bite. As a male, I try to provide a positive male role-model. This is especially important for one-parent families, as the majority of those (I know there are many exceptions) have only a female adult in the household.
So, is having so many women as teachers a positive factor for the course of education? I think so. Education evolves, as do the roles of women in society. At least in education, women can make a definite and positive impact every schoolday.
