The last language I learned was COBOL, am I silly to go back and get my Associates in Information Technology?

I’m doing this online to be available to my family and it will take 18 months. Serious replies please.

Not silly at all! In fact, lots of people go back to school in order to refresh old skills. If you take an AS in IT, you’ll be updating skills in an area that you obviously enjoy (based on the Cobol learning), and you can list both the old and the new on your resume when you graduate. I think it’s a great idea.

If you must do this online – and I think you genuninely do – then try to find a program that’s attached to a reputable school. In fact, you can even check your own state’s community colleges to see if any of them offer this program online.

There are some online programs that don’t have the greatest reputations with employers. Again, try to find something reputable, and which is tied to a school that has a good rep in your area.
