Well, both are actually very good and high standard examination boards. I am a in a Cambridge system school and just ended my IGCSE and continuing my A-levels. Around my neighbourhood, there are two other IB schools and four Cambridge system schools including my school.

If your child is in the 7th-10th grade, he/she will get the IGCSE or the International General Certificate of Secondary Education sometimes also known as the O-Level Certificate at the end of 10th grade(10 years of education). Most universities or polytechnic would accept the IGCSE as their entrance course. But some would like to do another 8-month foundation program.

While if you are taking the IB’s Middle Years Programme, Universities or Polytechnic would want you to gain the IB Diploma(12 years of education) first before attending University.

If you want to continue untill 12 years of education, at the end of it, you will get the A-Levels certificate. The UK governent has also rejected the plan to introduce English Baccalaureate which is modelled after International Baccalaureate. So I think the A-Levels is the a better choice. And, IB has become less popular compared to the A-Levels too. But some said that the A-Levels is harder than IB… Well, I am not sure, I only got a chance to try one of them.. Hahaha..

Hope this help…
