Stuck to make a decision about senior year…please read situation?
This year is supposed to be my senior year but I’m short 5 high school credits so they have me credited as a junior. If I pass every class this year and make up 5 credits by taking computer classes I can graduate this year but I also want to go to college and not community because I will just end up going to University anyway and community would just be a waste of money. My GPA is a 1.555 and I was thinking if I stayed in HS the extra year like I might have to and I got my grades up C’s or better in every class this upcoming year and then retook some classes I got D’s in for Grade Recovery then maybe my GPA will go up. This would be in a 2 year period of course so instead of 4 years in High School it would be 5. So the question is should I go for graduating this year or spend an extra year in high school? Also do you think I have a shot of getting into any University if I can pull my GPA into the 2 point range?

my suggestion is to finish high school on time and go to a community college before attending a university. it would not be a waste of time, in fact it would be more cost efficient and will help prepare you for what university classes are like. with your gpa it will be difficult to get into a university unless you had a very high SAT/ACT score. if you take the correct classes at the community college you can either transfer them to the university when you begin attending there or you can stay at the community college for 2 years to earn your associates degree. once you have that, you would only need an additional 2 years at the university to complete your bachelors. attending classes at a community college are MUCH cheaper than going to a university so save the money for the first couple years! the classes will be closer to high school classes at the community college so they will not be quite as difficult. you can get some experience with the differences in classes and even choose your major there without spending more time (and a lot more money) at the university deciding.
