try to be more inventive. if you’re absolutely set on using the once upon a time thing, go for something like “In a distant land, there was a place that, once upon a time, may have …… “

No, there are too many non flowing words. I understand where you are trying to go, though. Try something like ‘A long time ago at a place called…’ or ‘Long ago in a place called…’ Good Luck

If you want it to be stereotypical & cliched then it’s fine.
I prefer something along the lines of
“My name is unimportant, but you can call me Jack. I’m a musician by choice, a magician by profession, and a bastard by disposition.”
