Should I Transfer High Schools for my Senior Year?

Hi, this is my first time posting.. I have been at a school in California for 3 years, so I am going into Junior year. I have been very unhappy socially at this school. I have applied, and have been accepted to transfer into another high school in the county. It is not as academically rigorous of a high school, but I think that I will be happier for my senior year. It is lower ranked in California. My fear is that this interdistrict transfer would affect me adversely in the college admissions process or that it may raise a red flag to an admissions officer? I have a 4.04 GPA and 2000 SAT and I am scared of my class rank dropping since the worse school offers more Honors/AP classes in sophomore year, and many students have very high gpas. On the other hand, I would be able to enroll in more AP/Honors classes because they are not as rigorous at this school.

Please help me make this very difficult decision. Will this hurt or maybe even help my college chances?

Please help. Thank you.

Actually, the better schools offer more Honors and AP classes. The reason for that is the enrollment rate increases as demand increases. Demand only increase when the students are more rigorous. Therefore, the more rigorous it is, the more rigorous courses they offer. The transfer should not effect you in any way. As long as you maintain your GPA, and keep up the good work, you should be fine. Also, I would suggest you get involve in clubs and community service. It can hurt and it can help you for colleges. Colleges don’t just look at schools, they mainly look at you as a person, and whether or not you can contribute to their school. Depending on what college you go to, they may or may not require you to write a personal statement. If you do have to write one, and decide that you want to change the school. You can ALWAYS justify it in your personal statement. Class rank means alot, but at the same time you need to think what is more important to you. Do you want to be socially accepted or do you want to stay unhappy? If you change school and you are feeling better, then it is not a mistake. Even if things do not improve at the new high school, it is better to stick around for the whole year. Make sure you still keep up with your grades though.

Your scores look pretty good, but community involvement, clubs, sport, and etc. will make your resume shinier!

Good Luck! I hope this information will help!

im guessing that u have atleast one friend in the school ur currently at, even if no one else liked u, u had one other friend. so u should build ur friendship with whoeevr ur a friend with, join more clubs to put on the thing u give to ur college and that way u’ll have things to say u did and u will meet new people to be friends with. how do u know the new school wont be the same way? i suggest u stick with ur school and try to make things work. just one more year and the rest of the way is going to be uphilll from seeing ur gpa:]

Stay in your school.

I went to Stanton College Preparatory school, which is currently #3 in the nation, and used to be #1.

Anyway, I stayed all 4 years, managed to get into University of Florida.

The admissions officer knows that with a great school, getting a 4.0 GPA won’t even get you into the top 10% of your class, you must squeeze every weighted A to get a 4.4 something.

If you plan on applying to college, just be honest with them in the interview. Most of them dont really care that much.
