Should I Switch Schools ???

OK…..My dad wants me to go to a magnet school ( he likes magnet schools i think ). But I don’t know if I want ot go to a magnet school or a regular school. The magnet school is a classical one so it has dance teams ( hip hop )and gymnastics which is what I want to do….but you have to try-out for the dance team and if I just went to the scghool for the dance team and didn’t make the team it would really SUCK because I went to the school for something that I didn’t even get to do — But most of my friends are going to regular schools, the regular schools might also have more sports, and at the end of the year everyone gets to go to this swimming place………….So should i go to the magnet school or the regular school ???

i say regular school. unless you for sure are going to make the team. school is as fun as you make it. just get involved in a lot of activities.

Can you audition for the dance team and gymnastics team before you have to choose? Most of the Magnet schools that I’m familiar with will allow you to audition.

Does your traditional neighborhood school have a dance team? Many do. And you might be able to audition ahead of time there too.

Don’t be shy. Make a list of questions that you have regarding how you get on the dance teams and gymnastics teams. Get on the phone and start making some phone calls. Call the Magnet school and ask to talk to the dance director. Call the neighborhood school and ask to talk to the athletic director. Introduce yourself, and ask if this is a good time to talk. If not, ask if they’ll call you back. Go down your list of questions to get all the information you need. Keep asking questions until you get answers.

Choosing a high school is a big deal. While it’s good to be sure the programs are in line with your interests, it’s also important to feel comfortable and happy. Make some lists with a pro side and a con side for both schools. Talk to people who attend both schools and make the choice based on facts, not what you “think” it might be like.

You are choosing the school for the wrong reasons. Magnet schools are schools that get bucks for educational programs. If dance is what you want to do with your life then go to the school that has the best program to offer. Pick the school that will give you the best education. Look at the grades the schools get for best test scores.

Chose the school that will help you prepare for your future, not the school that has the best dance team, swimming party or where your friends are

going.
