all last week i was questioning what is happening with drug use among our teachers and it came out today that 1 of 25 teachers are illegal drug users. Thank me for showing you this one week early. So should we drug test now?? your child will have a drug teacher intheir lifetime.

I am surprised they do not do this mandatory anyways. You hear of teachers being arrested from time to time for possession in the news. At one of the highschools in Galveston, Texas, the drug dogs were at the highschool doing a random search. The dog found marijuana in one of the teachers’ car.

If we were to look at statistics, I think we would find that each and every occupation has its bad seeds. Do we test each and every person for drugs? 4% of the teachers supposedly are drug users. I have never used drugs and have no intention of using them. The other teachers I associate with do not use drugs, but yet you want to add an additional test to my life. I have to be fingerprinted every five years just to renew my license. I have to have a tb test to make sure that I haven’t acquired the disease from a student (if I did, I then have specific restrictions to my teaching). I have to take courses (at least 6 semester hours) just to renew my license. On top of that every school has their own regulations that I must meet.
If a teacher is using drugs and is caught, when the fingerprinting is performed for license renewal, the school will know. That’s if they don’t see it in the newspaper first and suspend the teacher.
