Education is a process through which information is acquired and critical skills about that information developed.
A degree is just a piece of paper. However, having that piece of paper proves that the owner was able to apply himself or herself enough to meet the requirements of the educational institution which issued the diploma.
Plenty of people who don’t have degrees are smart, of course, but a larger percentage of the people with degrees are smart.
