Qusetion about English grammar.?

If I was a bird , I could fly in the sky.

If I were a bird, I could fly in the sky.

Which sentence do you use ???

Actually both are correct. ‘Were’ is traditionally used for a hypothetical case. 100 years ago you would have said ‘If I were a bird’, or even ‘Were I a bird’. But that is one of those rules that’s no longer considered important.

Like the difference between ‘who’ and ‘whom’. We all learn that rule in school, and then we never use ‘whom’ for the rest of our lives.

Technically both say the same thing and are accepted all over. However, the latter appears to be more frequently used.
