Question for people from ENGLAND?

I’m American and I have a couple questions:

At what age do you become and adult?

What are the grades/school levels?

–for example in the U.S you start school at 5

and we have grades K-8

then high school 9-12 that most people finish when hey are 18…after that you are an adult and can go on to college if you choose..

how is it in England? thanks

Legally adulthood is reached at 18.

You can take the driving test at 17.

You can have sex, join the military, smoke and get married with the permission of a parent or legal guardian at 16.

School is started at 4 these days. Until 11 they’re at ‘primary’ school. From 11 onwards they’re at ‘secondary’ school.

You have to stay until you’re 16, when you take the GCSE exams – approx 7 to 11 subjects. (General Certificate of Secondary Education).

There are further sets of exams from 16 to 18, depending on what you choose to specialize in.

University degrees are supposedly to be taken from 18 to 21. Many students however have a ‘gap year’ or two of crappy jobs before they join university and degrees can take 4 years. More if a year is repeated.
