question about transferring to UCLA?

I want to know what are my chances to get into UCLA. I am currently going to a community college. My gpa is 3.8. I volunteer for American Red Cross, Big Brother Big Sister, and I am about to do this internship for an archaelogy center. My major is anthropology. Is there anything I should do to improve my chances?

It’ll be tough no doubt. You look like you have a good chance but it will still be a slim chance. Nothing much more you can do (unless you publish a paper) so just try to boost up that GPA.

You sound like a really good candidate. A lot of UC schools really like (prefer) taking community college students. Most undergrads in UC schools actually started out in community colleges.

However, UCLA is really hard to get into, and they can be really strangely picky. I have known people with great grades and lots of extracurricular activities get turned down. It seems like they have different criteria that they look for every year. Sometimes they emphasize grades, other times activities, etc.

However, you sound really well rounded, so you have a good shot. Try doing lots of different things (more internships, getting papers published if you can, etc.) They key is to be well rounded. Take lots of different classes.

Good luck!

UCLA has a wealth of online resources for students interested in transferring: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr.htm

I suggest you start by looking at the UCLA Admission Guide (available thru link above) to figure out what the campus is looking for in the applicants. Also look into the numerous transfer programs UCLA offers thru the community colleges and see if any of them is available at your community college (list available thru link above). Participating in the transfer programs will significantly increase your chance of successful transfer to UCLA.
