put a stake in the ground?
I have to translate an English article to Thai for my homework but don’t understand the phrase–put a “stake in the ground”. What does it implies or means? Could someone clarify this for me, please? Thank you very much in advance.

would have to see it in contex it litterally means to hammer a metal or wood stake (pointed object) into the ground. but they could have been using it to say lay down some roots or foundation in the area.
