the ‘p’ in Please is for Parentheses
the ‘e’ in Excuse is for Exponents
the ‘m’ in My is for multiplication
the ‘d’ in Dear is for division
the ‘a’ in Aunt is for addition
the ‘s’ in Sally is for subtraction
you do the order of operations in the order that the sentence is written starting from “please” to ” Sally”
But remember….parentheses and exponants are at the same level, so it matters which one comes first. Next, Multiplication and division are at the same level, and lastly, addition and subtraction are at the same level…
That’s how I remember the orders… PE’s first from left to right… then you go back to the left and you do all the MD’s (both multiplication and division) next from left to right… and then all the AS’s (addition and subtraction) from left to right….
