PLEASE HELP (AP Biology!!!)?
I have to do an experiment where I have to grow radish seeds in germination bags. I have to use 5 levels of an independent variable and light would seem like the best choice. What would the control and dependent variables be? And how can I create 5 levels of light??

Does it have to be 5 different ‘levels’ of light? That seems pretty hard to do. All I can think of is maybe different wattage light bulbs…Or you could do 5 different types of light…you could have 5 different colors…But the control would be the radish seeds that you would just grow regularly by which you would compare the other radish seeds grown by the different light. The dependent variable is radish growth, because the how much they grow depend on the kinds of light the have, right? Hope I helped!

Light is a good choice, but you could also try types of soil, or different fertilizers, or even how often you water the plants.
Five different variables of light:
1. Natural
2. None
3. Regular light bulb
4. Black light
5. One of those energy-efficient neon lights
Variables of Soil:
1. Black Dirt (has no fertilizer or boosters added)
2. Potting Soil (has vermiculite and other fertilizers and boosters in it)
3. Peat (a very fine type of soil often used when taking cuttings)
4. Sand
5. Compost
Watering: (this one would be tough because you would have to measure the amount of water you’re using)
1. Never
2. Every other day
3. Every day
4. Twice a day
5. Three times a day
As I’m not in school right now, I dont’ really remember what the control and dependent variables are, but since you know, I’m sure you would be able to figure it out.

you can filter the light through different shades of color. they are like plastic slides. another way is by using different growth chemicals like miracle grow and others. another is temperature a bit more difficult but another still. the control should be normal light or just plain water which ever you choose. good luck to you!
