What do you mean by the “art institute”, precisely?
Parsons versus the “Art Institute” chain of schools? Parsons, by far. Much stronger, and much better reputation.
Parsons versus the “School of the Art Institute of Chicago”? Chicago, by a nose.
Parsons is a very strong art school, one of the best.
The Art Institute chain of schools? Not so much.

I am an Ai (Art Institute) Student. Allow me to add this little tidbit I myself looked at several different art schools and yes there are many but the art institute does not claim itself to be that of a fine art school it is a school for designers they call you a designer the day you enter the doors. They teach design first and foremost art second. It is also a non-traditional setting all the teachers of the art institutes have spent time in the field working so they know and understand the job marker you are approaching. It also as I have learned offers more one on one and hands on learning then traditional art schools. I am a graphic design major myself and this little bit of info about the teachers and the teaching style is what made this school feel like home. I urge you to remember that in the end whatever school you choose is going to be your home for the next 3 to 4 years. I also chose the art institute because it does the quarter scheduling instead of semesters which means your done a year earlier then traditional colleges however if you are the kind of student that needs a 3 month break in the summer dont expect it at the art institute because it is not offered. If you have anymore questions let me know I would be more then happy to help.

Parson’s is a respectable school. There are several “art institutes” and some are less respectable than others, do you mean Chouinard Art Institute? Chicago? Seattle? San Francisco?
