You can become a RN with a AA degree or bachelors. Pay scale is the same if you can pass the board exam. Preparation for the board exam is probably better with the bachelor programs, because you have 4 years of education versus 2 years to prepare you for the test.
Bachelors degree is required if you want to further pursue a masters degree in nursing for jobs such as nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, or a nurse educator.

You will need a B.S. in nursing if you hope to be a registered nurse. Registered nurses are in the highest demand right now, and you can start off at about $35,000-$40,000/yr. A practical nurse can’t even come close to this salary. If you have the talent and brains, be a registered nurse.
