Your question is a little unclear so I will do my best to help you out.

I believe that what you are asking help with is an assignment where your teacher asked you to “think of what it would be like to be a gossip.” Is that the question. If it is, here’s some thoughts. Were you being a gossip? Were you ever the victim of gossip?

First of all, do you know what a gossip is? Webster’s dictionary defines gossip as, “Idle talk [or writing] about others, regardless of fact”. Idle is defined as “doing nothing, inactive, lazy, unused, frivolous’.

REGARDLESS OF FACT! Wow! You mean people just make up stuff about other people without having ALL OF THE FACTS or checking TO SEE IF THE FACTS ARE TRUE? Wow! That’s awful, huh? (Especially if they are telling these lies about you.)

It is actually funny (odd, inappropriate) that webster chooses the word idle here because gossip is anything but “inactive or doing nothing.”

Gossip can be a very dangerous thing. If you are being asked to “think [like] a gossip” than you are being asked to think about taking a little bit of fact and stretching it to include a whole lot of mistakes or lies.

Some awful things can come to be as the result of doing such a thing. People have been known to lose jobs, their families, their lives. I would not want to be the person responsible for these things happening, and I am sure you would not want to be that person either (at least I hope you wouldn’t want to be).

Sometimes as we are growing up we don’t realize that we are becoming gossips or that we are spreading gossip.

Gossip is an easy thing to grab a hold of. It is often interesting and it usually tells something that we wouldn’t want others to know about us. Do you have any secrets or things about yourself that you would rather others didn’t know about you? Sure! We all do.

Would you want that printed on the front page of your town’s newspaper? (Me, either!). So treat people the way you want to be treated and watch out for being the person that spreads gossip.

If you hear someone spreading gossip (and you can usually recognize it because it usually starts with things like, “I heard that so-and-so did … or Did you hear about…?” When you hear those cue words, stop and think about how you would feel if they were saying it about you. Take a minute, and respond to the gossip with something like this. “Look Ramon is my friend and I don’t believe what you are saying and I would appreciate it if you would stop talking that way.”

Good Luck with your assignment.
