My daughter said this word, what does this word mean?

She said this word to about someone but I am having a problem explaining her what it means.

She looks up the word in the dictionary but I know that is not the real meaning of it!

Can you help me explain what that word really means and how offenses it could be or maybe dangerous to call someone like that!

WORD: Jerk

tell your daughter that using the word “jerk” in reference to another person is not a nice thing to do. My mother gave me good advice and i passed it on to my children. If you have nothing good to say about another person say nothing at all.

Jerk in the verb form means to pull away suddenly, move/act in an inconsiderate way, etc. Hence one is labeled a Jerk, for doing, saying things that are inconsiderate, rude, or just plain unacceptable behavior.

Since you have taken the energy to have her look it up in the dictionary, than it is likely you can find comparisons on her level. The kid that cuts in line is acting like a Jerk. The kid that tattles ALL the time, on EVERYONE, is acting like a jerk. The kid that jerks the toy away from you when you have been playing with it, is acting like a Jerk.

Examples abound. Good Luck.

According to the Free Online Dictionary a jerk is “a foolish, rude, or contemptible person.”

That sounds like a pretty good definition to me.

In other words, it’s an insult; the person you call a jerk might take offense, especially if they ARE a jerk.

Well, to me it’s always meant someone who’s pompous (big headed), selfish, stupid and mean. I use it a lot when my husband is making a stink over something ridiculous. Basically what you should do besides telling her what it means…because meany, etc still isn’t a super bad thing considering what comes out of some kids mouths (where’s the soap when you need it?) But what you should impress upon her is that no matter how she feels about a person, she shouldn’t call people names, because it’s not nice. Also because she wouldn’t like someone to call her names.

4. Slang. a contemptibly naive, fatuous, foolish, or inconsequential person

Yeah that is a bad answer. What does it even mean?

A jerk is someone who doesn’t think about other people feelings.

I can’t believe I put that answer!

What a jerk of me. I didn’t even read that you have already looked in the dictionary.

Jerk is sarcastic, mean, unforgiving and never misses an opportunity to make a cutting remark. Jerk’s repulsive personality quickly alienates other Warriors, and after some initial skirmishing he is usually ostracized. Still, Jerk is very happy to participate in electronic forums because in cyberspace he is free to be himself…without the risk of getting a real-time punch in the mouth

If she is over the age of 8, be thankful that is the worse word that comes to her mind.

My mom would always sit me down and tell me little stories to illustrate points…..Ahhh. the good old days of guilt trips!!haha

seriously, her little stories have always stuck with me.

God bless the soul of my precious mother♥
