Modern Languages?

For my options I haven’t chosen Modern Languages (French) and i’ve heard that to get into a good University it can sometimes be compulsory. I’m jumping ahead a bit, but i’d just like to know that if I did want to go to University the option’s open. Could someone please tell me if they know whether this is true. Also, I would like to continure my KS3 work on French and learn it outside of school (and get qualifications this way). I couldn’t do this in school because it was not possible to do everything and i’d like to know if anyone knows any good places where i can do this please? Thanks!
