Every middle school is different. The amount of homework and length of class time depends on your individual school and class. It is very important for you to understand that middle school is a bigger challenge than elementary school. Your classes and work assignments will be more difficult. It is important to stay focused and work hard to perform well academically. Everyone will expect you to be more responsible. You will probably have more than 1 teacher and change classes every period (45 min-1 hour) and maybe have your own locker. Good luck and all the best.

I understand that you are nervous and excited about the first couple of days because I’ve already gone through this. To answer your questions:

-The time inbetween classes varies usually from 3-5 minutes. Try checking your school’s website for the bell schedule.

-The time you spend in class also varies from school to school. Some have block schedules (where there are about four classes a day which are longer) or they have regular schedules (usually 45-55 minutes)

-On the first day you normally don’t get that much homework…usually its just forms that your parents have to sign.

-Throughout the year the homework varies…some nights you can get almost none..other days all the teachers pile it on…on average I’d guess about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours.

Some tips:

-Pay attention in class. It makes a huge difference in how much you learn

-Do your homework

-Don’t worry! Although 3-5 minutes may sound like nothing…trust me you will be amazed how fast you can speed through those hallways.

Just a suggestion:

-Try saying hi to five people you don’t know throughout the day…who knows you might meet your future best friend.

Middle school is really the first time many students are expected to be more independent and use the skills you have learned from your earlier schooling. The formula for success is very simple. Pay attention and participate in class (class periods of 40 -60 minutes), do your homework (expect some every nights), and study for tests in advanced (expect to do some every night).

As a middle school teacher I have seen many who are able to to the first two things, but for some reason are ill prepared when it comes time to take tests. Unfortunately, you will find that testing is becoming more and more important.

I think many students have a hard time, because studying is something that you cannot simply learn. It involves students figuring out how they study best. Some can simply read the material once and they get it. Others have to read the material over and over. Others have to write and rewrite notes. Other study aides include flash cards, discussing the material with others, graphic organizers, outlines, etc. It is all based on your personal learning traits and is usually different from student to student.

Hope this helps you. Good luck in middle school.

Well, I am going into the 8th grade and school start august 22.(Wednesday) When I started 6th grade, it was with ,6,7,and 8th graders.

It isn’t that bad, but you have to adjust to the way it is, if you get what I’m saying. We have 2 minutes to get to our classes, but 4 when we get to classes like gym and band.

We spend from 45 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes.I’m not sure.

On the first day you shouldn’t get homework. On the 2nd or 3rd day you might. We don’t get much homework from one class, but it can pile up from all the classes.

PS: For 6th grade, I had to start in a new school, just like everybody else. In 7th, since we have 6,7,and 8th in one school, I had to switch schools. We moved during the middle of my 6th grade year and my mom wasn’t gonna make me switch schools during the middle of the year. I’m going to go to the same school in 8th grade, but we have a new school building. Our old school had been there for 50 years.

You should only share a locker if you ask to. You will get a book or two from each class.

You can’t drop off things before school starts. If they did that, then they would have to keep up with hundreds of students things. There will be a day to get your schedule,to meet your teachers, and to get your locker combination and to try to open it.

Um, yeah it’s kinda weird you get the second week off, but hey, I have a dance the 3rd day when no other High School does. You get no little or no work the first day, since you need to know how to get around and what classes you have. You have anywhere between 4-10 minutes between each class to “hang out”. And yes, the joy of all middle-schoolers, you get your own locker! You’ll most likely have to share it, unless you are going to a massive school.

I’m fifteen so I hope this helps, first thing smile all day, you probably will get five minutes to get to each class, you spend at least fifty to fifty five minutes in class, on the first day of my middle school I only got parent letters and a little homework from science class, and throughout the year not that much just maybe an hours worth depending on the level of hardness or what it is, and no that doesn’t make sense lol, and a word of advice don’t care one bit what the eighth graders say they’ll be going off to be a freshman 🙁 hahhahahahhaha speaking of which im going to be a sophmore yay, good blessings to you 🙂

wow,you sound nervous…

in my school, you dont get lockers,so you dont have to waaste your time going to them, and i get 5 minutes to change classses.yes, most schools do have some sort of open house where they give you your schedule(wich i missed when i was starting 6th,scary ) and you meet everyone and get to know the school.if you do get lockers in your school,it is not likely you will share it,and if you do have to share it(not likely) there is a 1/4 possibility it will be with someone you know,so my advice is:go to a school without lockers, and if it does have them,i envy you!

if you have to share a locker,my advice would be to not use it,and carry your stuff in your backpack

hope that helped!

Well On the first day @ my skool they don`t give ANY homework. We kinda just meet the teachers, and they teach us all about the Bell and what they expect in there class.Yes,you do get your own locker,it`d help if you bought some sort of locker shelf!!I like to glam up my locker with mirrors, pictures, eraser boards and what not.JUST DON`T PUT STICKERS ON YOUR LOCKER!THEY DON`T COME OFF ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL AND THE NEXT KID WHO GETS YOUR LOCKER WILL HAVE PiNK STICKERS ALL OVER THEIR LOCKER!!!lol.Just be very nice to the kids around you, especially the older kids.you might wanna be in the popular crowd.

well where i went to middle school i had 4 minutes to get to each class. I had 6 periods. On the first day of school it was usually meet the teacher and students…we usually didn’t start getting serious till the third day of school, but throughout the year it is a big jump from elementary school and middle school homework wise.

well I will be in my last year of middle school this year (8th grade) Sixth grade really isn’t that hard and you don’t really get as much homework as 7th and 8th graders. Well it actually depends on your school. And you probably spend about a half an hour – 1 hour in a class. I wouldn’t worry 6th grade is just like 5th grade. Good luck!
