Many people spell the words “a lot” “alot” as one word, is it now acceptable in terms of proper spelling?
or is it just a very common misspelling?

It’s not correct to spell it as one word, but as with all languages including the english language, words are morphed and added/removed all of the time. I suppose it’s not wrong only if enough people come to the consensus that it’s no longer incorrect.

No, in proper English usage it is not correct. But as you might have noticed from this website, grammar is not a big priority for a lot of people.

There is no such word as “alot.” It is not considered acceptable, and never has been.
It’s one of the most common errors people make.

Common mispelling. I always spell it “a lot”.

i would use ‘alot’ as one word, it just seems odd as using it as 2 words. and plus i see it more often as 1 word.

It seems to be. I also think the same goes for “anyways”-
I can’t stand to here it pronounced with an “s” at the end.

Just doesn’t look right to me. There seems to be more and more sloppy grammar and I think it is just laziness.
