Looking for legit college grants?

Okay I have already been accepted to college and completed one year. I filled out a fasa, but I’m barely receiving anything. I’m still considered dependent though my father is no longer helping me pay for college education. Are there any legit grants I can apply for in my situation? I’m called fasa and spoken with my college’s financial aid office and they haven’t helped. Also I have little to no credit so apply for a private student loan with out a co-signer is impossible for me.

I wish I could help you more. Try looking through these websites for aid:

FedMoney.org Home

I also found this: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/ar02.html#d0e3270

Please read through this. In order for your father to claim you as a dependent, you cannot be the one to provide more than half of your own support for the year (see the guidelines under what defines a “qualifying child”). If you are and you do not fall under the exemptions listed at the bottom of the list, then what he’s doing could have consequences with the IRS.

With this in mind (I’m assuming you are or will be 18 soon), check again with FAFSA – if your father should not be claiming you as a dependent based on the information you’ve given, then your application should be changed accordingly, and hopefully, money will be awarded to you.
