Linking verb or action verb?

The crowed remained spellbound throughout the magician’s performance.

Is “remained” in that sentence a linking or an action verb?

The stone felt smooth and velvety.

Is “felt” a linking or an action verb?

These are pretty easy, I guess, but for some reason I can’t figure it out!

They are both linking verbs because they can be replaced with IS or WAS.

Both are linking to adjectives (spellbound & smooth and velvety).

I believe that in the first one, “remained” is an action verb coz the crowd is remaining- they’re doing something. And the second one, “felt” is a linking verb coz a rock cannot feel.

The first is an action verb. The crowd’s doing something, they’re remaining. The second…I believe it’s linking. The rock isn’t feeling, after all.

I know felt is a linking verb in the second one and I believe that remained because it tells you how they were and ‘links’ it to the rest is as well. good luck.

I believe they are both linking verbs because you could substitute “is” for the verb in question.
