If the home was built before 1960, there is a pretty good chance it has a layer or two of lead-based paint. Anything up to the late 70’s still might, but it’s far less likely. There is a nominal amount still used in paint. There is a DIY kit that is very reliable, and I would reccommend using one for the peace of mind, if nothing else.
