Hold on you are very young. Do a lot of research first. If you join the Air Force as a pilot you have at least an 8 year commitment to them before you can get a civilian job. Once you separate from the Air Force you will have to start at the bottom of the ladder for any airline. Check all of your options first and if you feel the USAF is the right choice go for it.

The Air Force isn’t for everybody. You’ll spend a long time with people telling you what to do and controlling a lot of your life — where you live, what you wear to work, how you cut your hair, etc. It was one of the best experiences I ever had, and I wouldn’t change a thing if I had it to do all over again, but that’s just me. You may find you don’t like it, and by the time you find out it’s too late — you’ve already made a commitment to serve for at least four years.

If you want to go the Air Force route to become a pilot, you’ll have to be an officer. There are three ways you can become an officer: (1) Get an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, which is next to impossible now if you’re a white male, (2) Go to a college that has an Air Force ROTC program and get into that ROTC program — if you get in, the Air Force pays for you to go to school, but the payoff is you give eight years after college to the Air Force, (3) Get a college degree and apply for a commission. If you’re accepted, you go to Officer Training School for 18 weeks and then agree to give eight years of your life to the Air Force.

You should also know that there is HUGE competition for pilot slots. You have to be in tip-top physical condition, your eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, you must have full color vision and depth perception, and if you have any medical conditions that would affect your ability to fly you’ll be disqualified. What a drag it would be if you worked so hard to get into the Air Force as a pilot and then find out you can’t get a pilot slot…

If you want to get into the Air Force, the best things you can do right now are (1) Do your best in school, (2) Get in shape, (3) Stay out of trouble with the law, and (4) Get involved doing community-service stuff. These things, especially the community service, will go a long way toward helping you get an appointment to the Air Force Academy or a slot in an ROTC program.

Before you go down this road, however, think VERY HARD about spending eight years wearing an Air Force uniform and the sacrifices you’ll have to make. You may end up getting stationed somewhere far away from home in a place you don’t like, and you may end up going someplace like Iraq or Afghanistan if you get called up. Find some people who have gone down this road before and talk to them about what Air Force life is like before making your decision.

Check out the Airline Training Program here for commercial airline training information.

You need at least 2 years of college to enroll in this. You first get your private pilots license, then have to fly and gain experience, and then you get your commercial license. They have 100% financing.

This site here breaks down the two paths of training for being a pilot – military and private – and what the costs are and how long they take to complete. You can go the private route faster, since you are required to remain in the military for some time after becoming a pilot, and to become a pilot you have to go through officer training first.

Hope this helps you get closer to making your mind up! I think you choose a good career choice in general!

the appropriate Fighter ever outfitted is the F-15 F-15’s are one hundred and five – 0 in air to air try against. No different fighter can journey that record. And the F-22’s suppossedly can take out 4 or 5 F-15’s in one engagement.
