Is the second year of university too early to create a portfolio?

I am a communications student beginning my second year of college, afflicted with what most people would call delusions of grandeur.

My current specializations are fiction writing, fictional character design, and logo design, three vastly disjointed mediums. While all of then in a way continue to contribute towards my goal of animation writing and eventual hopeful show creation and pitching, the good majority of the work is stll a work in progress, and has been for the past few years, being done in my spare time while working on other required schoolwork.

Now that my creative works have been moved to the forefront of my education, I continually feel the need to have something prepared to show the people that continually feel the need to confront me about my career choice and tell me it’s never going to work.

At this point, with everything still frankly being WIPs, I’m not sure if assembling a portfolio will do any more than make me look delusional, as said. More below.

no it is not too early. i am a graduating senior this year and i started putting pieces in my portfolio my second semester freshman year. that way it shows my progress and my skill, so it is ok to start now.
