Is NROTC a good idea? Is it a good experience?

I am going to be a senior in high school. Coming from a low income family, college tutition will be hard.

i am thinking about the naval scholarship. in exchange for 8 years service I will be taken care with college tutition.

Those who have military experience, ROTC experience of sons/daughters in these programs what are your thoughts? is it worth it??

of course I can always get loans, apply for scholarships and hope i can get aid but this ROTC sounds easier. please give insight.

Easier? I don’t know about that. You are basically a part of the military when on ROTC scholarship. You aren’t on active duty so won’t get sent into combat, but you are in training to become a military officer. If that’s your ultimate goal then by all means check it out…it’s a great way to get started plus get an education. Here a link to their FAQ… https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/faqs.cfm …you might want to start there to get some good information. If the military is not your ultimate goal then apply for financial assistance by completing the federal application at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ (actually you can do this even if you go into the NROTC program…you might qualify for some additional grants to help pay your education).
