“Median annual earnings in May 2004 for salaried hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists, including tips and commission, were $19,800. The middle 50 percent earned between $ 15,480 and $26,600. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $12,920, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $35,990.” That quote is from the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Considering that field is not really very well paid, I would say it would not be worth spending $15,000 to get trained. If, however, it is really you life-long goal to work in that field, you might be willing to sacrifice the money. Even then, though, you could probably look around and find a more affordable option. Many community colleges offer programs to prepare you for that career, and they cost a lot less.
