is it ok to be 14 in 8th grade?

When I taught 8th grades, most kids having birthdays were turning 14. Some turned 15 – mostly because their parents had them go to pre-K an extra year. Some only turned 13 in the fall if they had come from another state.
Some people recommend holding a child (especially a male) back a year before he enters kindergarten, so he will do better in comparison to the rest of the class. A couple of families did that in my son’s class–although by the 8th grade, I think the advantage had worn off.
Yes, dear, absolutely. 14 minus 8 equals 6. Most people are 5 in kindergarten, you were 6.
You are absolved. Go and sin no more.
It’s worth noting that older students are often better learners, too. Some parents hold their kids back a year to give them that little benefit.
so its just fine
