i have noticed a lot of typing where the people dont put the full word, like they say u instead of you. and this really bothers me. am i the only one? or does it annoy others as well??

No, it is not just you who notices this and finds it annoying. I sat my TEE papers last year and one of my friends in the mock exam wrote her whole English paper in shorthand or ‘msn speak’. Needless to say, she failed.

It is bothering many people. Less people at university level are aware of proper sentence structure, grammar and punctuation meaning that the people who are going to be teaching our kids are less likely to be at a high level of English… It has gotten so bad that some unis are making students sit a unit to get back to proper spelling etc.

Language, of the million and one other things in this world, is constantly evolving and yes it is obviously none traditional communication. It is change and like most change, it is not change that people resist but the individual resists being changed. That is what you are feeling right now. Look, others may do what they want whether you, I or anyone else approves of it. We each have a choice, in most cases and this one when you can opt to go along or continue with that which acceptable. Hopefully this has helped.

I don’t think it’s appropriate when typing a document, letter, or similar text. But, it’s perfectly fine in an sms where the message has to be short while still conveying the message.

It’s NOT just you… -And I’ll bet you don’t have a cell phone with text messaging on it- either! “Text Messaging Shorthand”- is REALLY spreading across our written language these days, and it looks like it’s going to get WORSE. I guess other than complain about it- there’s not much we can DO about it… 🙁

ppl type lyk this cos,

one, follows the trend,

two, its more convenient.

also, typing short-hand really do quickens the speed of ur typing, and it tranfers messages much more quickly.

as for text messages, short-forms are used so as to minimise the no of messages sent.

for example, a text message with short words is shorter than a text message with complete words.

dont worry, its nth much, its usual, so dun fret so much abt it

everyone’s into it..haha =]

I understand. But, this is the new shorten way to type. I don’t do it, I guess I am too old school.
