I can’t believe every person so far has said no! It’s not easy, but it is possible! I’ve worked full time through my entire college career. I certainly wouldn’t call it easy, but it’s not the end of the world. One of my friends at school works almost half as many hours as I do, and always tells me how she doesn’t know how I’m able to work a full 40 hours per week and take between 14-16 credit hours each semester. When I was still working 5 8-hour days per week, I would change my schedule each semester (my boss was really good about letting me do this!) depending on how my classes were scheduled. Yes, I had to work weekends, but once again…NOT the end of the world! I currently have a job where I only work all 40 of my hours in 3 days(friday, saturday & sunday). It was a little difficult to get used to at first, but it’s been 7 months and it’s fine now. I’ve been working 3rd shift since April 06 because (1) i’m a night person and would much rather stay up all night that have to get up early and (2) think the graveyard shift is perfect for someone in school, but only if you can handle the odd hours. And yes, I am a good student and get good grades.

Now that I’ve said that, I’m going to tell you this. If you don’t have to work full time while you’re in school, then don’t! If you don’t need the extra hours to survive then you’d be better off working no more than about 20 hours per week. Especially if you have a very active social life! Working full time while in college means that you have to use your time wisely and compromise between what you need to do and what you want to do in your free time. For instance, I don’t spend a lot of time studying (other than doing assignments to turn in) because it bores the living daylights out of me and I actually do pretty well with the little bit of studying that I do. But if you need lots of time to study and write papers then you’d have to have less of a social life. Basically, I think you need to just sit back and take an honest look at your situation to see if you can handle it.

There are only 24 hours in a day and it would be impossible to be a full time student and have a full time job. You need to study, do homework, and if you want to survive at all you’ll need sleep. Either work part-time or be a part-time student because it’s impossible to be a full time everything. In the end it’s your education that’s really gonna pay off once you graduate so try not to overextend yourself.

It is not easy at all. It depends on how much focus, determination and stamina you have.

I worked full time in an office job, and went to a University my last two years of college. I maintained an A- GPA, but it was really hard to do.

I dont recommend doing it however. College is something that you should dedicate a lot of your time to. It should be fun and social and not just about the education. So, work as much as you need to, but keep those other things in mind too!

No, it is very difficult one generally.

Eight hours of work and 15 to 18 units load in a semester would not be advisable. Some can do it with say 9 to 12 units load in a semester.

If you are taking medicine, you would think a day is not enough for your daily academic load even if you are a full time student without job.

NO!!!! I did it one term, I was a complete *****, miserable, my schoolwork and personal relationships suffered, as well as my sleep schedule and health. I feel like I didn’t really get anything out of that semester education-wise, because I was so busy just trying to pass.

It’s definitely POSSIBLE but NOT worth it. To be honest, you really don’t want to work over 20 hours per week. If you work 20 hrs/wk you’ll have time to go to school, work, homework, eat, and sleep with virtually no time left for anything else during the week.

and if this is your first term at college, you should aim for 10-15. Trust me, you’ll be plenty busy with school. the money’s nice, but college is supposed to be fun, don’t waste the whole experience working.

NO!

School is a full-time job. If you are attending school, you should only work part-time (if financially able to do so). If you are working full-time, you should only go to school part-time. If both are full-time, you will be constantly frustrated and exhausted. Most likely, your grades will suffer.
