is an IQ score of 109 good?

I.Q. tests attempt to measure intelligence but they don’t do a great job. Someone could have a photographic memory and do very well at med school but have an average I.Q. score.
Processing speed is poorly measured on I.Q. tests and this is another area that affects intelligence.
My daughter attended a school for gifted children that operated several years above grade level. There was only one kid that could do long division in 1st grade. He got the lowest I.Q. score in the class – 115.
I was slightly late to my test and my I.Q. fell 25 points.
It’s certainly not bad, but it’s important to remember that IQ stands for “Intelligence Quotient,” and that’s excatly what it is – a fraction (or quotient) of your score on the test, divided by your age. The more you score correctly, and the younger your age at the time you do so, the higher your quotient will be. You can get the exact same number of answers correct but, because you are older at the time you take the test, your quotient will come out lower (a bigger number, i.e., your age, won’t go into your score as many times as a smaller number, i.e., a younger age, will, thus the appearance of a lower quotient, or IQ). This has the effect of making it appear that people become less intelligent as they age, when in truth, it’s generally just the opposite. So be proud that you scored as well as you did, but because of this built in deficiency inmeasuring IQ, don’t put too much stock in what your IQ is “supposed” to be.
