to find an inverse equation, you simply swap the x and y variables, then isolate the y on one side.
for example: if y = x+2, the inverse would be:
x=y+2
subtract 2 from each side to get:
x-2=y
which is the same as:
y=x-2

to find the inverse of any function you just swap the x and y variables around.
y= x-4
becomes
x = y – 4 (by switching x and y around for each other)
then make y the subject by adding 4 to both sides
x + 4 = y – 4 + 4
x + 4 = y
