im confused about majors and classes!!?

i keep looking at college websites trying to figure out where i want to go based on their majors, but of course, im only going to have one. i like psychology, nutrition, and child development. so when i dont see one or two of these as a major, i think that i cant go to the college. but how do i know if they still have them as classes?

Many universities (like the Univ of California at Berkeley and a few others) have been experimenting with interdisciplinary programs that allow you to sit down with a professional academic and coordinate a class schedule and degree program across various disciplines. (I believe Berkeley calls it ISF under the College of Letters and Sciences) Columbia University also offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Having said all that, keep in mind that your interests may change over time. An undergraduate experience is about keeping an open mind and enrolling in a rich breadth of courses. Your interests may change over time. For example, I have a friend that started out as a Psychology major but ended up graduating with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in psychology.

Good luck!

A great resource to find out information on majors and classes at a particular university is the university’s “Course Catalog.” There you will find information not only the about available majors and classes that the university offers, but also detailed descriptions of the courses and the philosophy of each major department. This is important because not every university teaches psychology or child development the same way. Some departments may be grounded in a specific theory like behavioral theory or sociocultural theory. Some universities will have a broad base of theory and allow you to choose which ones to specialize in once you are introduced to the different theoretical models. So keep this in mind when checking out colleges and universities. You can find the course catalog at the university’s bookstore or most universities should have a link to a PDF version on their website.

That being said, know that it is common for students to change their majors when they attend college so it is very important to find a college that not only suits your major interest but also your personality and values, that way in case you decide to change your major you will still be happy and successful at the university you are already attending and won’t have to expend a lot of energy and time trying to find another university to transfer to. Good luck as you begin to narrow down your options!

Just because the school doesn’t offer a major in something doesn’t mean they don’t have the classes available. It’s best to search the website for a course catalog to see what classes they do have that fall under which major. Child development wouldn’t be under its own major it’d probably fall under psychology or education. Alot of majors have different tracks to do different things with. Journalism has 2 tracks for example, one in print journalism another in television. It’s best to try contacting the schools you are interested in and get a better idea of how their majors work. And trust me you can go to college.

Just because they don’t offer your specific major, does not mean you cannot attend that particular school. You can take your prerequisite classes and then transfer to another college when your finished. I would suggest making an appt. with a counselor to discuss your educational goals. You said” you enjoy child development , nutrition , and psychology…..you can do a double major or major in one field and minor in another ( for example : major in psychology with a minor in child development) Good Luck with what ever you choose to do.

Major-the field of study you get your degree in.

Classes-what you take to earn enough credit hours to get your degree.

Degree-in 4 year colleges, bachelor of arts or bachelor of science, in 2 year colleges, associate degrees.

Suggestion-See if their class schedules are on their website to check if the classes you want to take are taught there. Ask the schools you’re looking at to mail you catalogs to get a good overview of the schools.

Pre regulation isn’t a substantial. it somewhat is a application some colleges supply. you’re able to do the pre regulation application and would nonetheless would desire to decide for a substantial. Economics, historic previous, political technology, accounting, are all stable majors for regulation. do you recognize what variety of regulation you prefer to prepare? Going into biology, physics, chemistry and then going into regulation will show you how to get into the sector of scientific/scientific regulation-this is a robust area to pass into. in case you wan to do company regulation, do a organisation substantial. Do a substantial you like and would have a occupation in. do not anticipate going to regulation college. constantly have a plan B

you could contact them.. sometimes they can put classes together to equal that major… like i wanted to do premed, but the school i was looking at didnt have premed so they said to major in chem, bio, or biomedical engineering which would be the same as premed for them..
