You can go to college to become a real estate lawyer.
First, for most people, to buy and sell a house, is an important transaction. They expect realtors to be and look professional. It is much more than merely look good in a suit, they expect a certain polish. The easiest way to get this polish is with a college education.
You may be thinking you already have this polish, that you do not need any further refinement, that you can convince an ordinary person that you are a professional. Well, you may not get the chance. The profession is seen as lucrative with little effort. Many others also apply for employment, including high school graduates, housewives looking for part time work. It is not that employers reject non-college candidates, it is that so many college-educated candidates apply that candidates with less education are not considered.
Finally, the fact that you may get a job does not mean that you got a career. You may not understand it, but leads are very hard to get in the business. There are semi-fraudulent practices. For instance, a company may hire a kid. He may think he will learn the ropes of the trade. The manager hopes the kid’s family or friends are looking to buy a house, and decide to buy thru him, thus bringing the commission to the business. Of course, the number of people the kid can thus bring is quite limited, and once the manager decides the kid ran out of customers, the kid would get a polite kick in the ***. Nothing personal, it is just that the manager needs the space for the next kid, who will also be thrown out in time. This kind of manager hopes there is always some new kid ready to be exploited. If you do not have college and apply to some other realtor company, they will wonder if you were the victim of such scheme, may decide you may not have sales skills, and hire somebody else.
Therefore, you see, you do need a college education to be taken seriously in real estate.
